Water Clear Polyester Casting Resin Overview

Our Water Clear Polyester Casting Resin is ideal for casting, embedding, preserving biological & medical specimens.
It can also be used for making paperweights & decorative objects, such as costume jewellery. 
Because of its clear water appearance when cured it can be used to create water effects such as streams or waterfalls by modellers. 
Our Water Clear Polyester Resin is UV stabilised, meaning it can be used for outdoor use & projects which will be kept in the garden e.g. pebble displays or waterfalls.

If doing multiple pours of clear casting resin, great care should be taken in regards to the heat that is generated with each pour. Before each pour, it is best to ensure the first pour has cooled (and is cool to the touch) before adding the next batch of resin.

Instructions

Shake well before use. 

Pour a little resin into a mixing cup and leave to allow air bubbles to rise. Carefully stir the required amount of catalyst into the resin.

Catalyst Mixing Ratio

The correct additions should be observed to maintain good results.

Dispensers are advised for accuracy. The table above gives the correct ratios of catalyst to resin by weight.

• 1% is considered a slow mix
• 2% is ideal
• 3% is a fast mix

Additions outside these bands in not advisable for proper curing, in fact adding more than 4% may result in a failure to cure. The pot life of these mixes is also determined by temperature. The higher the temperature the faster the cure. As a general guide 2% addition at 20ºC gives 15-20 minutes pot life. Our Water Clear Polyester Resin will always cure quicker if left in a mass such as the mixing bucket or in castings.

Polyester Pigment Paste

Opaque or translucent polyester pigment pastes can be used to colour the resin if desired. Both should be stirred into the resin before adding the catalyst.

• Opaque polyester pigment paste use 6% addition by weight for strong dark colours but never more than 10%. To maintain consistent colour on a large project, it is often a good idea to pigment all the resin and then decant working quantities to be catalyzed as required.

• Translucent  polyester pigment pastes become more opaque the more you add, for best results expect to use only a 1% addition.
